Merry Christmas from all of us here in Puglia

AbbieDSCN0946_1600x1200Please don't buy a dog as a Christmas present. Not unless thorough research has gone into what responsible dog ownership entails and what is involved in looking after a puppy. Maybe then those owners who find themselves unable to cope would not abandon the dogs in the nearest kennel , if people researched then maybe we  wouldn't have such a distressing job and the rescue centres wouldn't be so full."

During the holiday season people are so busy that they don't have the time it takes to fulfil a new pup's round the clock demands. It's unfair to bring a young dog into the chaos of holiday celebrations and ignore their needs. Responsible dog ownership is the solution to the problem.

Perhap consider sponsoring one instead, think of it as saving  a dog this Christmas. We can never have enough sponsers!

We are animal rescuers. We have bought animal food with our last penny, we have patted many a mangy head with a bare hand. We have hugged those that are vicious and afraid. We have fallen in love a thousand times, and have cried buckets full into the fur of a lifeless body too many times to count. We are  animal rescuers. Our work is never done,Our home is never quiet, our wallet is always empty but our hearts are always full.

We have 22 dogs in our Care and money is beyond tight..We have mounting vet Bills and Medications.
Most of  the dogs we help need  ongoing vet care...and not forgetting food,20 kilo's does not quite last two days, thats with ours and the ones we feed on the roadside.

During the festive season people expect to share Christmas with friends and family.I believes dogs have exactly the same right to a warm, comfortable, loving environment and with your help we can make it just that little bit better for them. Please sponsor or donate.

Our dear old boy Ginger is begining to get old,we have had him for almost 10 years and can only guess what age he was when we found him.He is very much a part of our family. He came from Portugal with us. He has a heart problem and is on daily medication for that,he is also an epilectic, and has been on permanent medication for several years for that . Fairly recently he has slowed up no end. He is begining to get quite thin and it really cracks us up that there is little else we can do for him.We always make sure he has a little extra on his dinner,to encourage him. He has always been such a lovely ,well tempered, obedient dog. We love you Ginge XX

blobbikinsDSCN1235_1600x1200Sparky is the next on the list of casulties. He also is one of our Portuguese dogs,he was only about six months old when we took him from a tiny crate,in soaring temps of 35 degs+,with no food and more importantly no water for days on end.

He developed problems with his knee when he was quite young, and had two operations on it in Portugal. He has know developed what the vets think is arthritis on his knee, and a lot of the time cannot weight bear, and walks on three legs. He has been on medicaton for some time, and will be asessed again in the New Year. He is also overweight which doesn't help,so has been on a diet as well.

Last week we came across this poor creature,he is locked in a stable yard, not too far from where we live.He has no food or water, and is in a terrible condition with Mange. Poor little soul.He is so friendly. We take him food everyday, and have started some treatment for his condition. Its difficult when you can't get at him,but he is such a good friendly boy.

Well lastly its just for us to say,we hope you all have a wonderful time over the holidays and we will catch up again in the New Year.. Have a very Merry Christmas
